LISC Houston Small Grants Program 2025
This program provides funding to nonprofit organizations in targeted Houston neighborhoods to support community-led projects that enhance civic engagement, collaboration, and local leadership.
Description
LISC Houston has announced the launch of the 2025 Small Grants Program, an initiative aimed at strengthening neighborhood engagement, civic participation, and grassroots leadership. Since its establishment in 2015, the Small Grants Program has supported hundreds of community-led projects, engaging over 52,000 participants and leveraging millions of dollars in resources to improve neighborhoods throughout Houston. The program provides small grants of up to $5,000 to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations to implement community initiatives that foster collaboration, civic engagement, and local leadership.
The 2025 Small Grants Program prioritizes projects that revitalize neighborhood associations, engage residents in community decision-making, and create tangible improvements in public spaces. Eligible projects may include activities such as organizing public forums, beautification and placemaking projects, and initiatives that bring residents together to address shared concerns. LISC Houston aims to reestablish and strengthen grassroots networks that were weakened during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that communities have the tools and resources to drive positive change.
Funding is limited to specific targeted neighborhoods in Houston, including Acres Homes, Alief, Denver Harbor/Port Houston, Fifth Ward, Greater Third Ward, Gulfton, Independence Heights, Kashmere/Trinity/Houston Gardens, Magnolia Park, Near Northside, Northline, OST/South Union, Sunnyside, Sharpstown, East End, and Spring Branch. Proposals must demonstrate a clear impact on these communities, emphasizing resident participation and collaboration with local organizations.
Interested applicants must submit their proposals online by April 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM CST. Late applications will not be considered. A virtual Q&A workshop will be held on March 19, 2025, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, providing prospective applicants with guidance on eligibility, the application process, and best practices for crafting a competitive proposal. Grant awards will be announced in May 2025, with all funded projects required to be completed by October 31, 2025.
LISC Houston will evaluate applications based on several key criteria, including community impact, collaboration, feasibility, and sustainability. Proposals should align with neighborhood priorities and demonstrate strong partnerships with residents, local businesses, and civic associations. Additionally, projects must have a clear plan for implementation, measurable outcomes, and a strategy for sustaining engagement beyond the grant period.
