New Mexico Tourism Department

This funding opportunity provides financial support to local governments in New Mexico for projects focused on reducing litter, promoting recycling, and enhancing community beautification efforts.

Description

The New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant is administered by the New Mexico Tourism Department to support litter eradication, waste reduction, and community beautification initiatives. The program provides funding and technical assistance to municipalities, counties, Tribal Governments, and other governmental units within the state. The grant is competitive, meaning that applications may be funded in full, in part, or not at all, depending on the quality of submissions and availability of funds.

The grant aligns with the objectives of the New Mexico "Litter Control and Beautification Act," which empowers the Department to reduce litter and promote sustainable environmental practices. The program focuses on several key goals, including ending littering, reducing waste through sustainable practices like composting and recycling, enhancing community green spaces, empowering youth through education and service opportunities, and increasing program capacity by engaging volunteers and professional organizations.

Funding is provided for projects that prevent littering, improve waste disposal, encourage recycling and sustainable material management, and support graffiti eradication efforts. Additionally, funding may be used for youth leadership programs and the recruitment of volunteers to assist with community beautification initiatives. The grant cycle runs from July 2025 through June 2026, with applications opening on March 4, 2025, and closing on April 4, 2025.

Eligible applicants include municipalities, counties, Tribal Governments, and units of government within New Mexico. There are no indications that nonprofit organizations or individuals are eligible to apply. Applications are subject to review by a panel, and funding is distributed based on alignment with program goals and the strength of the application.

Technical assistance for applicants is available through the New Mexico Tourism Department. Interested parties can access grant guidelines, sample applications, and other supporting documents through the department's website. A webinar is also available to provide additional guidance on the application process.
