Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (Parent K23 Independent Clinical Trial Required)
This grant provides funding for clinicians to conduct independent clinical trials and develop their research skills through mentorship, focusing on patient-oriented studies that directly involve human subjects.
Description
The NIH Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) supports clinicians with a doctoral degree in conducting independent clinical trials or related studies. This opportunity aims to develop researchers who can apply advanced research methods to patient-oriented research (POR), which involves direct interaction with human subjects. Eligible candidates must propose research focused on patient disease mechanisms, therapeutic interventions, or clinical trials.
This NOFO requires candidates to lead an independent clinical trial or a feasibility or ancillary study. Those not leading such trials should apply to the companion NOFO. The award provides salary and research-related expenses for 3-5 years, supporting career development through mentorship from experienced investigators. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to developing research skills and gaining clinical research experience.
The program is open to U.S.-based higher education institutions, nonprofits, and government agencies. Candidates are required to dedicate at least 75% of their professional effort to their research project. Application deadlines begin on June 12, 2024, with several subsequent deadlines until 2027. Strict compliance with submission guidelines is required, and early submission is encouraged to allow for error corrections.
