2025 Technical Assistance Grant
This funding initiative provides financial support for small-scale preservation planning studies to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and municipalities that manage historic sites used for public arts and culture.
Description
The 2025 Technical Assistance Grant (TAG) program is a preservation funding initiative administered by the Preservation League of New York State in collaboration with the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), with additional support from the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area / Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation. The TAG program supports small-scale preservation planning efforts by funding discrete studies that precede repairs or limited rehabilitation projects on historic buildings, structures, or sites.
TAG is specifically designed to assist nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and municipalities that own or hold long-term leases (at least six years) on historic resources that are primarily used for public-facing arts and cultural purposes. The program prioritizes projects that catalyze preservation efforts and serve as leverage for future capital investment or grants. Projects eligible for TAG funding include engineering, architectural, and environmental studies that help guide and inform preservation work. TAG is not intended to fund construction or large-scale capital projects.
Applications are accepted through an entirely online process. All prospective applicants must first submit a pre-application to confirm eligibility and receive access to the full application. The deadline to complete the pre-application is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025. Final applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025. Awards will be announced approximately 12 weeks after the final deadline.
Since its inception in 2012, TAG has provided over $743,000 in support to 230 preservation projects across New York State. In-person grant workshops are available to help applicants prepare their submissions, and an on-demand webinar led by the League’s Grants & Technical Services Manager, Janna Rudler, offers a detailed overview of the program and application process.
