Music in the Community Grants 2024
This funding opportunity provides financial support for music-related programs and activities in New Mexico, particularly aimed at benefiting underserved communities such as rural, tribal, and veteran populations.
Description
The New Mexico Music Commission is inviting applications for the Music in the Community Grants for the year 2024. This grant program aims to protect, promote, and preserve the musical traditions of New Mexico while fostering an appreciation for the value of music. The initiative encourages educational, creative, and professional musical activities among the residents of New Mexico. The commission will provide funding to support new or existing music engagement, education, appreciation, or performance programs, particularly focusing on underserved communities, including rural, tribal, veteran, and individuals with disabilities.
For the 2024/2025 cycle, the New Mexico Music Commission will award ten grants, each valued at $2,500. The funding can be utilized for a variety of activities, including musical performances in local venues or festivals, lectures on music-related topics, music demonstrations, workshops, and exhibitions. The grants are designed to enhance music engagement and education, thereby enriching the cultural landscape of New Mexico.
Eligible applicants include New Mexico-based businesses, non-profit organizations, tribal and local government entities, K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and individuals. It is important to note that individuals applying for the grant must partner with a community organization and provide a letter of commitment from that organization to support their proposed project. The program prioritizes projects that serve underserved communities, ensuring that the benefits of music are accessible to all.
The grant covers various allowable expenses, such as artistic, administrative, and technical fees, consultant and facilitator fees, consumable supplies, marketing expenses, rental fees, and artist travel fees. However, certain expenses are ineligible for funding. These include projects outside of New Mexico, investment funding, awards or prizes for individuals, projects that have already occurred, and costs associated with social functions, among others.
Applicants must adhere to specific submission requirements, which include providing detailed project descriptions and budgets. The evaluation criteria will focus on the project's alignment with the grant's objectives, its potential impact on the community, and the feasibility of the proposed activities. The application process is competitive, and applicants are encouraged to clearly articulate how their projects will contribute to the musical landscape of New Mexico.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 4, 2024. Interested parties should ensure that their proposals are complete and submitted on time to be considered for funding. For further information, applicants can visit the New Mexico Music Commission's website or contact the grantor, Katie Bruell, via email or phone for any inquiries related to the application process.
