This grant provides funding to community organizations, local and state governments, and tribal entities to implement strategies that reduce violence and enhance safety in high-risk neighborhoods across the United States.

Description

The BJA FY25 Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) Site-Based Program, managed by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) under the U.S. Department of Justice, aims to reduce community violence through evidence-informed, community-centered strategies. With a total anticipated funding of $50,000,000, the initiative offers four funding categories targeting various stakeholders, including community-based organizations, tribal entities, local and state governments, and capacity-building organizations. Awards will range from $2,000,000 to $4,000,000 depending on the category, with a maximum performance period of 48 months starting October 1, 2025.

The program emphasizes the implementation of multidisciplinary strategies to disrupt cycles of violence, focusing on high-risk individuals and communities disproportionately impacted by violence. Supported activities include outreach and mentorship programs, hospital-based violence interventions, and partnerships between community organizations, law enforcement, and healthcare providers. Applicants must propose evidence-informed approaches and may include innovative models tailored to local needs. Program goals prioritize reducing violent crime, building local capacity for sustained violence prevention, and enhancing community partnerships.

Eligible applicants vary by category but generally include nonprofits, tribal governments, state and local government entities, and intermediary organizations. The program does not require cost sharing or matching funds. Applicants may submit multiple proposals, provided each represents a distinct project. A research partnership is required for many categories, with the partner expected to assess community violence, identify gaps, and contribute to ongoing performance evaluations.

Applications must be submitted through a two-step process, beginning with the SF-424 form in Grants.gov by April 8, 2025, and followed by a full application in JustGrants by April 15, 2025. Required documentation includes a detailed proposal narrative, a budget detail form, letters of support, and a timeline of activities. Proposals must address community needs, project design, organizational capacity, and a plan for measuring and evaluating success. Applications that include wellness policies for community violence intervention (CVI) workers, target high-crime areas, or demonstrate existing partnerships will receive priority consideration.

Awards will require recipients to conduct comprehensive needs assessments, develop community-specific violence reduction plans, and collaborate with stakeholders. Deliverables include quarterly and final reports, with emphasis on data-driven insights and lessons learned. Priority is given to proposals that align with evidence-based practices and demonstrate potential for sustained impact post-grant.

Post-award responsibilities include adhering to federal financial and performance reporting requirements, compliance with civil rights regulations, and active participation in BJA-sponsored training and technical assistance. Successful applicants will engage in activities such as peer learning events, regional meetings, and the development of resources to support broader dissemination of CVI strategies. For further details, potential applicants are encouraged to consult the BJA funding webinars and reach out to designated support contacts provided in the application materials.
