Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program for States
This funding opportunity provides financial support to state governments and territories to implement and evaluate comprehensive suicide prevention strategies targeting high-risk populations such as veterans, rural communities, and LGBTQ individuals.
Description
The Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program for States (CDC-RFA-CE-25-0009) is a forecasted funding opportunity from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aimed at supporting state-level jurisdictions and territories in the implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention. This program seeks to target disproportionately affected populations, such as veterans, rural communities, tribal populations, LGBTQ individuals, and the homeless, who face higher suicide rates or contribute significantly to the overall suicide burden.
The program emphasizes a multi-sector partnership approach, utilization of data for refining suicide prevention strategies, and the assessment of existing suicide prevention programs to identify gaps and assets. Applicants must develop a plan for partnerships, use of surveillance data, and strategies informed by CDC's Suicide Prevention Resource for Action. Evaluation of all activities for continuous quality improvement and dissemination of findings to partners is also essential.
This cooperative agreement has a projected total funding of $49.65 million, with award amounts ranging from $650,000 to $1.2 million annually. Eligible applicants include state governments and territories. However, entities funded under CDC's previous expansion of the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention program (CE22-2204) are ineligible to apply.
Applications are expected to be due by May 2, 2025, with the project start date slated for September 1, 2025. Key documents required for application include letters of support from health department leadership, partner organizations, and data managers, as well as a preliminary program organizational chart outlining the required staffing.
