Walter J. Miller Trust Grant
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in Pennsylvania for a variety of charitable projects, including education, health services, social welfare, environmental conservation, and the arts.
Description
The Walter J. Miller Trust provides grants to nonprofit organizations supporting a wide range of charitable causes, including education, health services, religious organizations, social welfare programs, environmental conservation, and arts, culture, and humanities. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations under the Internal Revenue Code. While there are no strict geographic limitations, the trust primarily supports organizations based in Pennsylvania.
Applications are accepted year-round, but to be considered during the annual grant meeting held in April, submissions must be received by February 1. Grants typically range from $2,000 to $15,000, with an average of 25 grants awarded each year. Proposals must be submitted via the online application form, and applicants receive an automated email confirming their submission.
The trust prioritizes projects with a clear demonstration of need. For example, in the area of health services, funding supports charitable hospitals for unique programs, equipment, capital improvements, medical scholarships, and research. Similarly, grants in education may benefit institutions and organizations for programmatic or capital needs. Religious organizations are eligible for education and capital improvement funding, while social welfare programs targeting the elderly, youth, indigent, and homeless are also considered.
Additional areas of focus include libraries, art and theatre, museums, preservation of nature and wildlife, and restoration of historical buildings and monuments. While political activities and fundraising events are not eligible for funding, the trust remains committed to broad-based charitable efforts that positively impact communities.
Recipients are required to submit a progress report within six months of receiving funds, unless specified otherwise in the grant terms. For further information and application access, organizations can visit the trust’s online application platform.
