Town of Brookline Community Development Block Grant 2026
This program provides funding to support projects that improve the lives of low- to moderate-income residents in Brookline through affordable housing, public services, and community development initiatives.
Description
The FY2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in the Town of Brookline provides approximately $1.3 million annually to support projects that benefit low- to moderate-income residents. These funds, allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), are used to address community needs such as affordable housing, economic development, public infrastructure, and essential public services. Applications for the FY26 funding cycle are now open, with a submission deadline of January 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Eligible applicants include town departments and nonprofit organizations. Funding is prioritized for programs that provide social and public services to vulnerable populations, rehabilitate affordable housing, improve public facilities and infrastructure, and support economic development initiatives. CDBG funds have historically been used for projects like the Brookline Housing Authority’s capital improvements, job readiness programs, micro-enterprise loans, and the renovation of public spaces such as parks and playgrounds.
Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that address critical community needs in alignment with the program’s goals. All funded initiatives must benefit a majority of low- and moderate-income residents, particularly in eligible areas like lower Brookline Village and the Route 9 corridor. Successful applicants will collaborate with the Town’s CDBG Advisory Committee, which evaluates proposals and makes funding recommendations to the Select Board.
To apply, download the FY2026 CDBG Application and Application Guidelines from the Town of Brookline’s website. For assistance, applicants can contact David Guzman, Community Development Block Grant Administrator, at dguzman@brooklinema.gov or 617-730-2091. This program offers a vital opportunity for organizations to enhance the quality of life for Brookline’s most vulnerable residents through impactful community development initiatives.
