Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Program
This program provides funding to local governments and transportation agencies for improving roads, bridges, and transit infrastructure, including projects for pedestrians and cyclists.
Description
The Federal-Aid Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Program assists public road jurisdictions with funding for roads on Federal-aid routes, bridges on any public road, transit capital improvements, and eligible transportation planning activities for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional Planning Affiliations (RPAs). Established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), it aims to preserve and improve the condition and performance of Federal-aid highways, bridges, and tunnels on public roads. Funds may also be used for pedestrian, bicycle infrastructure, and transit capital projects, including intercity bus terminals.
Opening and closing deadlines for application will vary by RPA/MPO. The same will apply for funds available. Applicants should refer to their respective RPA/MPO contact available on website: https://iowadot.gov/systems_planning/pdf/DistrictPlannersMap.pdf
