$5,000 - $15,000
Local
City of Kannapolis

This funding opportunity supports non-profit organizations in Kannapolis that provide essential services to improve the lives of low- and moderate-income residents, focusing on areas such as job training, health services, and community safety.

Description

The City of Kannapolis is accepting applications from non-profit organizations for the 2025-2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding cycle. The program aims to support initiatives that directly benefit low- and moderate-income residents within the city. Eligible applicants must demonstrate how their programs align with the CDBG’s mission to enhance community development and improve the quality of life for underserved populations.

Funding is available for a range of services, including employment assistance such as job training, crime prevention and public safety programs, childcare, health services, and substance abuse counseling. Additional eligible activities include fair housing counseling, education programs, energy conservation initiatives, services for senior citizens and homeless individuals, welfare-related services (excluding direct income payments), homebuyer down payment assistance, and recreational programs. These activities should serve to uplift economically disadvantaged individuals and families in the Kannapolis community.

The total estimated funding for this cycle is $50,000. The grant structure includes two funding tiers: multiple smaller grants of up to $5,000 to support existing programs and one or two larger grants of $15,000 for new programs or new organizations. While applicants may apply for both funding categories, they will only be awarded one type of grant.

Applications will be reviewed by the Community Improvement Commission along with city staff members. The review process will evaluate the alignment of proposals with CDBG objectives, the potential impact on the community, and the feasibility of program implementation. Interested organizations should ensure their proposals clearly outline how the funding will be utilized to support the target populations and adhere to the eligibility criteria.

The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. on March 31, 2025. Applications can be downloaded from the City of Kannapolis website and must be submitted via email to Jenna Logan at jlogan@kannapolisnc.gov. For further inquiries, applicants may contact the Community Development Program Administrator, Sherry Gordon, at sgordon@kannapolisnc.gov or by phone at 704-920-4332.
