2025 Lake Tahoe License Plate Program
This grant provides funding to public agencies and non-profit organizations for projects that protect and improve the natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Description
The 2025 Lake Tahoe License Plate Program Grant provides funding for projects aimed at preserving and restoring the natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The program, administered by the Nevada Division of State Lands, is funded by fees from the sale and renewal of Nevada Lake Tahoe license plates. Grants are available to both public agencies and non-profit organizations for projects that enhance environmental quality, such as water quality improvements, recreational features, educational programs, and research initiatives.
The program's evaluation process involves a technical advisory committee and, for research projects, independent peer reviews. Priority is given to projects listed on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's (TRPA) five-year Environmental Improvement Program. Evaluation criteria include the environmental benefits of the project, cost-effectiveness, long-term viability, applicant's past performance, and the level of community support and collaboration.
Applicants are required to provide at least a 25% match of the project cost, except for Nevada state agencies, which are exempt. Grant funds can be used for project-related expenses, such as design and construction, with limitations on administrative costs and equipment purchases. The funds cannot be used for unrelated planning activities, land acquisition not integral to the project, or certain other expenses.
Grants are awarded on a reimbursement basis, requiring quarterly progress reports and detailed documentation of expenses. Grantees must begin projects within six months of the award and may be required to maintain project improvements for at least 20 years. The application process includes obtaining necessary permits and approvals before project implementation.
