Grants to Strengthen and Uplift LGBTQ+ Communities
This funding opportunity supports organizations that provide essential services and programs to uplift and empower rural and underserved LGBTQ+ communities across the United States.
Description
The Gamma Mu Foundation is committed to empowering LGBTQ+ communities by funding organizations and initiatives that create lasting, positive change, especially in rural and underserved areas across the United States. The Foundation supports programs that promote health, education, social support, and equality, aiming to foster inclusive communities where every individual can thrive.
The Foundation’s grants focus on three key program areas:
Community Support Services: Activities meeting the needs of rural and underserved LGBTQ+ populations, such as youth, seniors, and victims of bullying.
Public Education and Research: Initiatives to raise awareness, foster inclusivity, and establish evidence-based advocacy for LGBTQ+ communities.
HIV and Health Programs: Interventions addressing the needs of individuals and families impacted by HIV, aging, and mental health issues.
Grants are available up to $15,000 per award. Applications are accepted annually from January 13 to March 31 for projects operating in the upcoming grant cycle, which runs from October 1 to September 30 of the following year. Grant funds are distributed in two phases: 50% in August/September and 50% in March/April of the following year.
The Foundation does not fund capital campaigns, construction or facilities projects, endowments, operating fund drives, political or lobbying activities, religious programs, payroll and staffing unrelated to specific projects, or non-U.S.-based organizations.
Applicants are encouraged to attend informational webinars held in February and March to assist with proposal preparation. The Grants Committee reviews all submissions, may request additional information, and may conduct site visits before making recommendations to the Board of Directors for final decisions.
