The Urban Wildlife Damage Abatement and Control (UWDAC) grants are available to any town, city, village, county, or tribal government in an urban area. The grants aim to help urban areas develop wildlife plans and implement specific damage abatement and/or control measures for white-tailed deer and/or Canada geese. Eligible projects include developing an urban wildlife population control plan, monitoring wildlife populations, removing deer using sharpshooters or trapping methods, implementing managed hunts, removing resident Canada geese by approved methods, modifying habitat, and implementing other approved wildlife control or damage abatement practices. The grant application period opens on October 1st each year and closes on December 1st. Grant awards are issued in January of the grant year. Applications will be ranked based on criteria such as addressing prevention and abatement of nuisance wildlife problems, including long-term solutions, cost-effectiveness of the plan or project, severity of the wildlife damage or nuisance problem addressed, and likelihood of preventing specified damage or nuisance.
