2024 Bronx Community Foundation Grant
This grant provides $10,000 to Bronx-based organizations for innovative projects that promote community cohesion or improve health equity and access to wellness resources.
Description
The Bronx Community Foundation (BxCF) has announced its Fall 2024 Participatory Grantmaking Request for Proposals (RFP), inviting Bronx-based organizations to submit applications focused on innovative, transformative solutions addressing systemic challenges. This grant cycle concentrates on two pillars: Community and Health, providing funds to support programs that either foster social, cultural, and economic cohesion in The Bronx or enhance health equity and access to wellness resources. The grantmaking initiative emphasizes participatory decision-making, with local community stakeholders involved in the evaluation and recommendation of grant awards, ensuring that the funding meets the real needs of Bronx residents. Proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. EST on November 22, 2024, through BxCF's online portal.
BxCF’s funding priorities in the Community pillar include projects that strengthen community bonds through arts, cultural activities, intergenerational services, and civic engagement. In the Health pillar, funding is targeted at organizations working to address health disparities, improve access to health and mental health services, promote food security through initiatives like community gardens, and support nutritional and wellness education. The foundation aims to empower nonprofits and grassroots organizations with resources that drive local well-being and remove barriers perpetuated by historical and systemic inequalities.
Grants for this cycle are structured to provide $10,000 per organization, with funds available for a range of program-related expenses, including materials, staff costs, workshops, and other necessary operational expenses. This flexibility is intended to allow organizations to utilize funding in ways most aligned with their project’s unique goals and needs. Only one application per organization will be accepted, and all applicants must ensure proposals align with either the Community or Health pillar to be eligible for consideration.
Applications are reviewed by a Participatory Grantmaking Committee (PGC), which consists of community representatives and stakeholders. The committee members, who must adhere to strict confidentiality and conflict-of-interest policies, are tasked with making funding recommendations based on community priorities and BxCF’s guiding principles. This process promotes transparency and shared decision-making in philanthropy, aiming to empower those directly impacted by grant decisions.
Interested applicants should submit complete applications using the designated online portal. BxCF will not accept emailed or mailed submissions, and applicants are advised to submit early to avoid potential last-minute technical issues. Queries about the application process can be sent to grants@thebronx.org, but responses are only guaranteed until November 20, 2024. BxCF encourages applicants to save their work separately during the application process to prevent data loss.
The application period opens on November 1, 2024, with the deadline set for November 22 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Award announcements will follow in December 2024. This grantmaking effort is grounded in BxCF’s commitment to social equity, community empowerment, and collaborative action, with a focus on tackling the persistent inequities that affect The Bronx community.
