GSK IMPACT Awards
This program provides $50,000 in unrestricted funding to nonprofit organizations in North Carolina's Triangle Region that are making significant contributions to improving community health through innovative solutions addressing social determinants of health.
Description
The GSK IMPACT Awards for the Triangle is an annual awards program that recognizes up to 10 nonprofit organizations in the Triangle Region of North Carolina for their exceptional achievements in improving community health. This is the 29th year of the awards in the United States, and GSK partners with the Triangle Community Foundation to administer the program. Each selected organization receives $50,000 in unrestricted funding to support their ongoing work.
The program focuses on organizations that address factors affecting health outside the doctor’s office — factors such as access to healthy foods, safe recreational spaces, education, employment, family support, housing, and physical activity. The awards are designed to celebrate organizations that are making measurable contributions to improving these social determinants of health.
To apply, eligible organizations must first register with the Triangle Community Foundation. Registration opens February 26, 2025, and closes on March 18, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Approved registrants will be invited to submit a full application, which will open on April 10, 2025, and close on May 8, 2025. The application process includes site visits conducted by Triangle Community Foundation staff, and the final winners are selected by a panel of community health experts and GSK representatives. Finalist site visits and winner selection will occur in the summer of 2025, with public announcements planned for fall.
Eligibility requirements are extensive. Organizations must be independent 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in at least one of the four counties in North Carolina’s Triangle Region: Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake. Annual gross revenue must be between $100,000 and $5 million for fiscal years 2023 and 2024. GSK funding must not exceed 50 percent of an organization’s annual operating expenses for these years. Applicants must meet program criteria across the areas of innovation, measurement, partnerships, accountability, community-centered practices, and transformative impact. They must also address at least one of the six focus areas: Community Safety, Education, Employment and Income, Family and Social Support, Housing and Built Environment, or Nutrition and Physical Activity.
Certain types of organizations are excluded, including religious institutions, political organizations, healthcare providers, academic medical centers, and organizations with healthcare professionals (like doctors and nurses) on staff. Organizations that received a GSK IMPACT Award in 2023 or 2024 are also ineligible unless they demonstrate significant programmatic growth and development.
Applications must include documentation such as IRS determination letters, W-9s, approved budgets for the past two years, a forecast budget for 2025, and lists of board members and staff.
