Home Based Crisis Intervention (HBCI) Statewide
This funding opportunity is designed to establish new crisis intervention teams in New York State to provide intensive, home-based support for children and youth facing mental health crises, helping them stay in their homes and communities.
Description
The Home Based Crisis Intervention (HBCI) Traditional Program, funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), aims to establish seven new HBCI teams across counties in New York State without existing HBCI services. The program serves children and youth aged 5 to 20 years, 11 months, who are at imminent risk of psychiatric hospitalization, admission to a group treatment program, or rapid readmission to such settings. The intervention seeks to stabilize youth within their home, school, and community environments through intensive crisis services, family-driven care, and trauma-informed approaches.
The HBCI teams provide short-term, intensive services to address the unique needs of families, enhance crisis intervention skills, and ensure connections to community resources. Services are delivered 24/7 in natural environments, such as homes and schools. Teams consist of a licensed Master’s-level supervisor and interventionists, with optional roles for psychiatric prescribers, peer advocates, and program assistants. Awardees are expected to build teams that adhere to the HBCI model and meet fidelity requirements. OMH will prioritize proposals that demonstrate a capacity for collaboration, family-centered care, and evidence-based interventions.
