2025 GroMoreGood Grassroots Grant
This funding opportunity supports nonprofits, schools, and community organizations in the U.S. to create or improve youth gardens and greenspaces in underserved areas, engaging at least 15 young participants.
Description
The 2025 GroMoreGood Grassroots Grant, sponsored by The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation and KidsGardening, offers funding to support youth gardens and greenspaces across the United States. In 2025, a total of 170 programs will receive grants ranging from $500 to $1,500, with an overall funding pool of $100,000. The program’s goal is to bring the benefits of gardens to underserved communities while fostering youth engagement and community enrichment through green initiatives.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, schools, universities, government entities, tribal governments, and other tax-exempt organizations serving at least 15 youth. Applicants must plan to use the funds for installing or enhancing youth gardens or greenspaces. Organizations must serve under-resourced communities, involve at least 15 youth participants, and have received less than $10,000 in combined grants for their garden programs in 2023 and 2024. Previous recipients of certain KidsGardening grants in 2023-2024 are not eligible to apply.
Applications open on January 6, 2025, and close on January 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM PT. The streamlined process involves completing the Common Application form, which is available for download in Word and PDF formats in English and Spanish. To avoid browser timeouts, applicants are advised to draft responses in a separate document before pasting them into the online form. Winners will be notified via email and listed on KidsGardening.org on March 17, 2025, with funds distributed in April 2025.
In addition to the standard grants, three specialty awards provide additional funding of $1,000 each for a total of $1,500 per award. These are the Plus Specialty Award (for programs facing significant challenges), the Pride Specialty Award (for programs serving predominantly LGBTQ+ youth), and the Equity Specialty Award (for programs led by people of color serving youth of color).
Award recipients are required to submit a brief report by December 15, 2025, detailing the garden’s impact. This includes digital photos, a short video, parental release forms for any images of children, and a narrative summary. If applicants anticipate difficulty meeting these requirements, they are encouraged not to apply. This grant offers an excellent opportunity to foster youth involvement in gardening while enriching community spaces and promoting sustainability.
