Del E. Webb Foundation

This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in Arizona, California, and Nevada that focus on community-based services promoting self-sufficiency and long-term benefits.

Description

The Del E. Webb Foundation is a private philanthropic organization that exclusively funds nonprofit entities operating within Arizona, California, and Nevada. With a focus on supporting community-based services, the Foundation invests in projects and programs that yield long-term benefits and promote self-sufficiency. It does not support initiatives associated with political, sports, or religious activities, nor does it fund individuals, scholarships, fundraising events, or government entities. Furthermore, organizations serving as fiscal sponsors or that plan to re-grant funds are ineligible.

Eligibility requirements are clearly delineated. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and maintain a physical office in one of the three eligible states. Their mission must align with the Foundation’s purpose of fostering productivity that brings lasting results. Additionally, there must be at least a one-year interval since the organization last received funding or was declined. Proposals from organizations with financial ties to the Foundation's board members or duplicate EIN-based submissions are disqualified.

The application process consists of three steps: verifying eligibility, submitting a Letter of Intent (LOI), and submitting a full grant application upon invitation. The LOI must be one page, presented on official letterhead, and detail the funding request and its intended use. Accompanying documents include the IRS determination letter, a completed contact form, and a grant questionnaire. If the request involves facility repairs, photographs must also be provided. These materials must be compiled into a single PDF and submitted via email.

If the LOI is approved, applicants are invited to submit a complete grant application within 30 days of the invitation or 30 days before the Foundation’s next meeting, whichever is sooner. The application must consist of three separate PDFs: the application form, financial documents, and the organization’s latest tax return. Specific contents of the application PDF include a detailed project description, mission statement, history, leadership information, financial breakdown, and project timeline.

Ideal applicants demonstrate a strong alignment with the Foundation’s mission and possess organizational attributes such as fiscal responsibility, volunteer engagement, and transparent operations. Programs are expected to be unique, impactful, self-sustaining, and provide measurable outcomes. While there is no deadline for LOI submission, applicants should submit at least three weeks before the board meeting to be considered in time. Grants range from $5,000 to $3,000,000, and large requests over $1,000,000 require prior discussion.

The Foundation primarily communicates via email and makes funding decisions promptly after board meetings. Grant payments are mailed and made payable to the organization name listed on the IRS determination letter. For inquiries, applicants are encouraged to email Grants@DEWF.org. Feedback on declined applications is not provided.
