Innovation in Economic Opportunity Grant
This funding opportunity supports nonprofits and community organizations in rural Kansas and western Missouri to implement innovative projects that enhance economic opportunities and build resilient local economies.
Description
The Patterson Family Foundation’s Innovation in Economic Opportunity Grant Program supports bold and creative initiatives aimed at enhancing economic opportunity in rural counties of Kansas and western Missouri with populations under 50,000. The Foundation is particularly interested in funding proposals that test new solutions to persistent economic challenges and build resilient rural economies through regional innovation and strategic industry diversification.
This grant is designed for nonprofits, community-based organizations, and partnerships that demonstrate strong potential for community-wide impact. Proposals may focus on developing or scaling innovation hubs, implementing workforce and skill development, or creating models that diversify regional economies and increase access to employment, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility.
Funding ranges from $25,000 to $500,000, with awards based on project scope, alignment with Foundation priorities, and readiness for implementation. This initiative is part of PFF’s broader commitment to long-term rural community sustainability.
The grant cycle operates in two rounds, both requiring initial submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) via the Patterson Family Foundation Grants Portal. Registration is mandatory and must be completed prior to submitting the LOI. Early submission is encouraged, as approval to proceed to full application allows more time for development.
The Foundation offers dedicated applicant support via scheduled Office Hours. These one-on-one consultations help guide organizations through the application process and clarify eligibility, strategy, and submission logistics.
