U.S. Agency for International Development (Egypt USAID-Cairo)

The "Stem" grant is aimed at gathering information and suggestions from potential partners to help USAID and the Egyptian Government expand and improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in mainstream public schools in Egypt, with a focus on interdisciplinary learning, project-based instruction, and soft skills development.

Description

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to collect written information about an upcoming
STEM education activity, in which USAID seeks feedback from potential implementing organizations,
local, international, private sector, and other development partners. This RFI intends to gather market insights for a potential science, technology, engineering, and math
(STEM) education activity. This activity aims to support the Ministry of Education and Technical
Education’s (MOETE) vision of expanding STEM education concepts across mainstream public schools
in Egypt, providing students interdisciplinary learning opportunities, project‐based instruction, and
soft skills development in addition to core technical skills that will prepare them for a rapidly evolving
labor market.
USAID is seeking:
● Information on the technical capacity organizations have to help USAID partner with the
Government of Egypt to expand STEM education concepts into mainstream public schools.
● Recommendations for partnering with the private sector to ensure sustainability of current
technology often incorporated into STEM education.
● Insight into local players willing to invest in Egypt’s STEM education.
● Suggestions for the best age or grade for students to be exposed to STEM education.
● Ideas on ways to: 1) improve the enabling environment of STEM education in Egypt, 2) link
higher education institutions to STEM schools, and 3) incorporate STEM concepts into
mainstream public schools.
● Insight on other identified systematic gaps and barriers to mainstreaming STEM concepts into
public schools that may be overlooked.
