The Leonard and Renee Minsky Fund for Arts Education, managed by the Maine Community Foundation, supports projects that integrate professional artists into classrooms for grades 3-5 in public schools across Penobscot and Washington counties, Maine. This program aims to enhance arts education by fostering collaboration between artists and teachers, ensuring that arts are effectively incorporated into the learning experience. The application deadline is December 16, 2024.
Grants of up to $1,000 are available to fund new or expanding projects. At least 75% of the awarded funds must be allocated to professional artists' fees, with the expectation that funds will be utilized within the current academic year unless an extension is granted. Priority will be given to proposals where teachers across grades 3-5 work together to present a unified arts education unit. Additionally, schools with fewer than 100 students are encouraged to submit a single arts education project for the entire school. Where possible, arts teachers on staff should participate in the design and implementation of the project.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations classified under sections 501(c)(3), 509(a)(1), or 509(a)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code, as well as public schools, municipalities, public agencies in Maine, and recognized Indian tribal governments. Groups without formal tax status may apply using a fiscal sponsor that meets these eligibility criteria.
