WUP Human Service Grants
This funding opportunity provides financial support to nonprofit organizations serving women and children in Charlottesville and surrounding counties, helping them enhance their programs and operations.
Women United in Philanthropy (WUP), in partnership with United Way of Greater Charlottesville, is announcing the opening of the 2025 Human Services Grants cycle. This grant opportunity supports local organizations that focus on serving women and/or children in the region. WUP, now celebrating its 20th year of philanthropic work, seeks to engage the community, uplift nonprofit organizations, and positively impact local families through grantmaking, advocacy, and awareness-building.
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations that serve women and children in Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, and Orange Counties. Eligible organizations can apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. These funds are unrestricted, allowing recipients flexibility in applying the funds toward their organizational needs, programs, or operations that align with WUP’s mission. The total available funding pool for this grant cycle is $60,000, and awards will be announced in May 2025.
Eligible applicants must be established 501(c)(3) organizations or have a qualified nonprofit fiscal agent. Eligible organizations must have been in existence for at least two years and must serve women and/or children in the specified geographic areas. Organizations that have received funding from Women United in Philanthropy in the past two years (2023 or 2024) are not eligible for this cycle. While organizations may serve other populations in addition to women and children, the proposed project or program must focus on these populations.
The application window opened on February 19, 2025, and will close on March 19, 2025. Interested applicants can submit their applications online via the application portal linked at https://bit.ly/2025_WUP_Grants. The review process will consider how well applicants’ programs align with the mission of supporting local women and children, as well as the overall impact and feasibility of their proposals. Grant award notifications will be made on or before May 15, 2025.
Applications are intended to be simple and accessible, reflecting WUP’s commitment to reducing barriers for smaller organizations. WUP is particularly interested in learning about programs that demonstrate innovation, community collaboration, and direct impact. Organizations are encouraged to apply even if they have never applied to WUP before.
