Influenza Modeling and Forecasting
This funding opportunity is designed to support a network of organizations that will improve influenza modeling and forecasting to enhance public health responses and reduce illness in vulnerable populations.
Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), is forecasting a funding opportunity for "Influenza Modeling and Forecasting" under the discretionary cooperative agreement funding mechanism. The purpose of this program is to establish a network that advances the CDC's use of influenza modeling and forecasting to improve situational awareness, guide prevention and control strategies, and communicate results effectively with public health officials. This initiative aims to mitigate influenza morbidity and mortality, especially in populations disproportionately affected by the disease, including those with historically lower access to vaccination and antiviral treatments.
The estimated funding for this program is $14,750,000, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025. Approximately seven awards are expected, although the specific award ceilings and floors are not yet determined. Eligible applicants include a wide range of entities, such as state and local governments, tribal organizations, public and private higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations other than small businesses, and independent school districts.
Key dates for this opportunity include an estimated posting date of February 3, 2025, and an application deadline of April 14, 2025, by 11:59 PM ET. Successful applicants will be notified by August 1, 2025. The application process will require electronic submissions, and detailed application guidelines will be available upon the release of the official funding opportunity announcement.
This program aims to strengthen influenza modeling and forecasting capabilities by fostering collaboration among researchers and public health officials. Activities supported under the cooperative agreement will include data collection, model development, and dissemination of actionable insights to inform public health decision-making.
