Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grants in Illinois
This grant provides funding to nonprofit and public organizations in Illinois, particularly in DeKalb County, to enhance music education initiatives for underserved communities.
Description
The Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grants are administered through the DeKalb County Community Foundation to support music education initiatives for nonprofit and public sector organizations. This grant primarily serves organizations in Illinois, with a strong preference for projects benefiting DeKalb County. The Foundation provides funding through two annual grant cycles, awarding grants for specific projects that must be completed within a year. In some cases, a longer commitment may be made to an eligible project. The fund prioritizes supporting underserved populations, enhancing collaboration between organizations, and advancing music education through school programs, scholarships, and new initiatives.
Grant applications are accepted online through the DeKalb County Community Foundation website. Applications open two months before the deadlines and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on either March 1 or September 1. The Foundation does not provide continuous, renewable funding for the same projects each year. Instead, organizations may only receive one grant within two consecutive cycles. A new application may be submitted if a previous application was denied, but successful applicants must wait until the following cycle before reapplying. School districts and higher education institutions may apply per building or department, respectively, ensuring equitable distribution of funds within large institutions.
The Foundation prioritizes funding projects that expand music education access, particularly for underserved communities. Eligible initiatives include collaborative programs, enhancements to school music departments, new music education projects, and scholarships for students. Preference is given to projects with diverse funding sources, including matching or challenge grants. However, the Foundation does not fund general sponsorships, religious programs (unless aligned with music education), scholarships for individuals, capital debt reduction, or political activities.
Award decisions are communicated by May 1 for the spring cycle and November 1 for the fall cycle. If awarded, recipients must complete a grant agreement within 48 hours before funds are disbursed. A final report is required within ten months of the grant date. Failure to submit required reports may impact eligibility for future funding. Additionally, any modifications to grant-funded projects, such as changes in leadership, budgeting, or timeline extensions, must receive prior written approval from the Community Foundation.
All grant applicants must adhere to the Foundation’s nondiscrimination policy, ensuring that no person is excluded based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other protected characteristics.
