The 2025-2026 Kentucky Pride Fund Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Management Grant is administered by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Division of Waste Management. This grant program is designed to support efficient and cost-effective one-day HHW collection events and educational outreach programs aimed at reducing hazardous waste in households. The funding seeks to develop an integrated recycling infrastructure, enhance public awareness, and promote safe waste disposal practices.

This grant program, established in 2006 by Senate Bill 50, is part of the broader Kentucky Pride Fund initiative. Eligible applicants include counties, waste management districts, cities, urban-county governments, and other political subdivisions of the state, including school districts. Priority consideration is given to regional projects with state-approved interlocal cooperative agreements. Each applicant is limited to one HHW collection event per grant period, although they may submit a supplemental application for a second event if funding remains available.

Grant funds may be used for vendor services related to HHW collection, advertising for the event, and educational materials for public outreach. Funds may not be used for office supplies, promotional giveaways, salaries for permanent staff, or the disposal of specific waste items such as water-based paint, automotive batteries, and used motor oil. A minimum 25% match is required, which can be fulfilled through cash contributions or in-kind services such as volunteer labor, educational materials, advertising, or security and traffic control for the event.

The application requires a detailed project summary, budget estimates, and an explanation of the proposed HHW collection event, including materials to be collected, the estimated volume, and strategies for advertising and education. Applications will be evaluated based on their feasibility, sustainability, and adherence to program requirements. Grant recipients must submit a close-out report within 60 days of their event, detailing the types of waste collected, how they were managed, and total project costs.
