Seeding Critical Advances For Leading Energy Technologies With Untapped Potential (SCALEUP) Ready
This program provides funding to teams developing innovative energy technologies that have previously received ARPA-E support, helping them scale their projects for commercial viability and competitiveness in the global market.
Description
The SCALEUP Ready program, issued by the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), aims to support the scaling of high-risk and potentially disruptive energy technologies. This initiative focuses on advancing innovations previously funded by ARPA-E, addressing technical and commercial challenges that arise after early-stage research and development (R&D). The program seeks to translate bench-scale advancements into commercially viable technologies by providing funding for pre-commercial scaling projects. These projects will help establish performance and cost parameters, integrate technologies into broader systems, and validate manufacturability and reliability, ensuring that U.S. innovations can compete in global markets.
Eligible projects must be based on technologies developed under prior ARPA-E funding, with a patent filed or obtained. Applicants must demonstrate a clear path to commercialization and build a project team with the capabilities to scale energy technologies. Standalone applicants are not eligible. The program covers a broad range of energy applications, and successful applicants must align their proposals with ARPA-E’s statutory goals, including energy security, emissions reduction, and U.S.-based manufacturing.
