This grant provides funding for projects that combine solar energy production with agricultural practices, specifically targeting farmers and organizations in southeastern and southwestern Colorado.

Description

The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has opened the 2025 application cycle for the Agrivoltaics Research and Demonstration Grant Program. Now in its third year, this initiative supports projects that research and demonstrate the integration of solar energy production with agricultural use on working lands. The program aims to assist Colorado farmers in balancing renewable energy generation with maintaining agricultural productivity.

Grants are available for a variety of project types, including the construction or expansion of agrivoltaics systems, demonstration projects, outreach efforts, and research projects. In 2025, CDA will prioritize projects located in southeastern and southwestern Colorado, areas which have not yet hosted demonstration projects or received previous grant funding.

Eligible applicants include individual landowners or farms, Tribal or local governments, research institutions, higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, and for-profit organizations. Applicants must submit a comprehensive proposal following the provided application template, including a project summary, approach, benefits to producers, and a detailed budget.

The maximum award for a single project is $150,000, and the total available funding for this grant round is $300,000. Applications must be submitted via email to Rosie.Skovron@state.co.us by 5:00 PM MT on Friday, May 30, 2025. An informational webinar to assist applicants will be held on April 29, 2025, and will also be recorded for later viewing.

This grant program is part of CDA’s Agricultural Drought and Climate Resilience Office (ADCRO) and is aligned with Colorado's broader goals for drought adaptation and climate-smart agriculture initiatives.
