Chicago Grants for Families of Students with Disabilities
This program provides financial assistance to low-income families with children who have disabilities, helping them cope with challenges exacerbated by the pandemic.
Description
The City of Chicago has extended a deadline for low-income families to apply for at least $500 if they have children with disabilities. This cash grant effort aims to provide relief for students and parents with additional needs who faced challenges during the pandemic. The original deadline was October 30, but it has been extended to November 15. The program was first unveiled in April and is funded through federal COVID relief money from the Biden administration. The city had budgeted $5 million for the program, with a goal to provide grants to as many as 8,000 families. As of early October, less than half of the desired number of grantees had been approved or received the grants.
