Funder: The Hearst Foundations
Award Details: The Hearst Foundations allocate approximately 30% of their total funding to health-related programs. Organizations with budgets over $10 million have received 80% of the funding in the health sector. The minimum grant size is $100,000. The Foundations are only able to fund approximately 25% of all grant requests, with about 80% directed to prior grantees and about 20% targeted for new grantees.
Eligibility: The Hearst Foundations fund organizations based in the United States that are registered as 501(c)(3) nonprofits. They do not fund organizations operating with audited expenses less than $2 million or those undergoing leadership transitions or with new leadership in place for less than one year. Preference is given to organizations that focus on professional development, improving access to high-quality healthcare for low-income populations, rural populations, and veterans, providing specialized care for elderly populations, offering behavioral and mental health care, scaling innovative healthcare delivery systems, and supporting research efforts related to finding new cures and treatments for prevalent diseases.
Other Relevant Information: Grantees must wait a minimum of three years from their grant award date before the Foundations will consider another request. The Hearst Foundations do not fund proposals seeking funding for festivals, tours, conferences, workshops or seminars; radio, film or television production; publications; advocacy or public policy research; special events for fundraising; seed money or pilot programs; established programs lacking demonstrable long-term impact on populations served; program-related investments (PRI); local chapters of national organizations; or scholarship or fellowship recipients studying or residing outside of the United States.
