Strengthening global health security in India through local partnerships to prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats
This grant provides funding to strengthen India's public health systems at the district, state, and national levels to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.
Description
The CDC Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) CDC-RFA-JG-25-0140 focuses on strengthening global health security in India by advancing the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) priorities. This initiative supports district, state, and national public health systems in preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats. The program emphasizes collaboration with the Government of India (GoI) to enhance capacity for controlling disease outbreaks at their source, ultimately neutralizing public health risks.
This NOFO aims to strengthen India's public health infrastructure through a "One Health" approach aligned with the International Health Regulations. The focus is on five critical areas: public health workforce development, disease surveillance, laboratory systems, emergency preparedness and response, and combating antimicrobial resistance. The initiative will augment existing GHSA efforts and transition CDC-supported initiatives to Indian institutions such as the National Centre for Disease Control, National Health Mission, Indian Council of Medical Research, and others.
The total estimated funding for this opportunity is $5,000,000, with four awards anticipated. Funding will be provided through cooperative agreements, ensuring collaboration between the CDC and recipients. Eligible applicants include a wide range of entities such as state and local governments, nonprofits, tribal organizations, higher education institutions, small businesses, and for-profit organizations other than small businesses. There are no cost-sharing or matching requirements for this program.
Applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov by April 8, 2025, no later than 11:59 PM ET. The application package is expected to be available on February 7, 2025, with awards announced on August 28, 2025. Funded projects are scheduled to begin on September 30, 2025.
This funding opportunity provides a critical platform for enhancing India's public health capacities while transitioning GHSA activities to local institutions. Interested applicants are encouraged to align their proposals with the One Health approach and the GHSA priorities to address public health challenges effectively and sustainably.
