Grants are targeted at organizations located in the United States, India, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Requests for these impact grants must exceed $10,000. In addition to monetary grants, the fund offers a Module Donation Program for solar modules and systems. Applicants must consult with an installation technician to ensure project feasibility and may request financial support, typically ranging from $10,000 to $15,000, for installation costs. Module donation proposals should detail project size, timelines, maintenance plans, and how the donation aligns with First Solar’s mission.

Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or demonstrate a charitable purpose. Organizations may submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) detailing the project’s goals, population served, funding requested, and intended use of funds. Deadlines for LOI submissions are February 1 and August 1 annually, with applications submitted through the foundation’s online portal.

Applicants advancing in the selection process may be invited to virtual meetings to provide additional information. Grantees must submit documentation such as board member lists, financial statements, operating budgets, tax-exemption letters, and organizational backgrounds. International grantees must also provide details of their institutional structure and past grants received.

The fund does not support sectarian activities, annual campaigns, or scholarships.
