Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation Grant
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that create innovative programs or services for children under 18 with special needs, acute illnesses, or chronic disabilities.
Description
The Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation (IWPF) provides grants to support nonprofit organizations that develop innovative programs or provide direct services for children with special needs, acute illnesses, or chronic disabilities. Established in 1987 by Irving and Estelle Packer, the foundation was created to address funding gaps in special-needs programming, which the founders experienced firsthand through their work in the public school system. Since its inception, IWPF has awarded funding to organizations dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with unique challenges.
IWPF offers financial assistance on a one-time basis to supplement other funding sources or provide full support for eligible projects. The grants focus on innovative programs that serve children under the age of 18. However, the foundation does not typically fund salaries, professional fees, operating expenses, or building projects. All funding requests are reviewed by the Board of Trustees, who have full discretion in approving applications. If an organization receives funding, they must submit a notarized affidavit confirming that no duplicate funding has been or will be received for the same project. Additionally, a final report is required within 60 days of receiving the grant to verify the funds' usage.
Eligibility is limited to organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code, excluding most private foundations. Government agencies or entities at the federal, state, county, or municipal level must disclose their affiliations when applying. Applications are only accepted through IWPF’s online submission portal, and hard copy or email submissions are not permitted. Required documentation includes IRS 501(c)(3) verification, the most recent IRS Form 990, an audit or financial statement, a total program operating budget, and additional supporting materials such as staff resumes, letters of endorsement, and relevant publications.
The application cycle remains open until December 31 of each year, after which the Board of Trustees reviews submissions. Notification of funding approval is typically sent between May and July, and grants are disbursed between July and August. It is important for applicants to plan their funding requests accordingly, considering the timing of the approval and disbursement process. All application-related communications, including award determinations, are sent via email to the address provided in the application.
For inquiries, IWPF prefers communication via email at Info@IWPF.org. Applicants can access the submission portal, save their applications as drafts, and return later to complete them before final submission. The foundation strongly encourages applicants to carefully review all requirements and ensure compliance with its funding guidelines before submitting their applications.
