S.H.E. Pitch Competition for Women-owned Businesses in Maryland
This competition provides cash prizes, publicity, and networking opportunities for women-owned businesses in Frederick County, Maryland, at both the idea and growth stages.
Description
S.H.E. Pitch is an annual pitch competition hosted by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce to support and celebrate female entrepreneurs in Frederick County, Maryland. This initiative provides participants with access to business development tools, expert feedback, and the opportunity to present their business idea or growth-stage venture before a panel of experienced judges and a live audience. Winners receive cash prizes, publicity, and valuable networking opportunities to help launch or scale their businesses.
Enrollment for the 2025 competition is open through April 7, 2025. Participants receive access to the Pitch Creator program, an educational resource designed to help refine an elevator pitch, investment summary, and presentation deck. Finalists will be selected to compete for cash prizes and public recognition during a live pitch event.
The competition is divided into two categories: Idea-Stage and Growth-Stage businesses. To qualify as an Idea-Stage business, the venture must be at least 51% woman-owned and either owned by a Frederick County resident, based in a Frederick County physical location, or located in a Frederick-based shared office or kitchen space. Growth-Stage businesses must also be 51% woman-owned, generating revenue of no more than $1 million in 2024, and operating for no more than three years as of March 1, 2025. These businesses must also demonstrate business legitimacy through capital access, resource acquisition, expenses incurred, or required licenses obtained. Registration with the State of Maryland is required and must be complete by June 23, 2025.
This program does not provide grants in the traditional sense but offers competitive, merit-based cash prizes. It is supported by a coalition including the Maryland Women’s Business Center, Frederick County Office of Economic Development, City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce.
