ROSES 2024: B.13 Heliophysics U.S. Participating Investigator
This grant provides funding for U.S. researchers and institutions to advance the understanding of the Sun's impact on the solar system, encouraging collaboration with international partners.
Description
The NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) invites proposals for the Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2024 program, specifically for the Heliophysics U.S. Participating Investigator (HUSPI) program element (NNH24ZDA001N-HUSPI). The ROSES 2024 omnibus solicitation encompasses a wide range of research and technology development opportunities across space and Earth sciences. Proposals for the HUSPI element should align with NASA’s goals to advance heliophysics science, which includes understanding the Sun’s influence on the heliosphere and its interactions with Earth and the solar system.
The program accepts proposals from U.S. institutions, though international collaborators may participate on a no-exchange-of-funds basis, provided their contributions align with NASA’s guidelines. Interested applicants must submit Step-1 proposals by February 12, 2025, as Step-2 proposals cannot proceed without this initial submission. Step-2 proposals are due by April 23, 2025. Applicants are encouraged to retrieve and review all required forms and documents from the NSPIRES system (http://solicitation.nasaprs.com/ROSES2024).
This program provides funding through cooperative agreements and grants, depending on the nature of the proposed work. Most awards typically span three years, although shorter or longer periods (up to five years) may be specified in certain program elements. NASA anticipates offering awards to eligible organizations across academia, industry, and government sectors, with no restrictions on teaming arrangements, provided the proposed research aligns with the solicitation's goals.
Potential proposers are encouraged to consult the detailed program element description and associated documents available on the ROSES 2024 NSPIRES website. These resources include instructions for proposal submission, tables listing specific program elements, and deadlines. Proposers should also reference NASA's Grant and Cooperative Agreement Manual (GCAM) for guidance on compliance requirements and policies.
Questions regarding general policies or the solicitation may be directed to Max Bernstein at sara@nasa.gov. Specific technical questions about the HUSPI program element should be addressed to Simon Plunkett at simon.p.plunkett@nasa.gov or (202) 358-2034. Updates and amendments to the ROSES solicitation are shared via the SMD mailing list, the ROSES 2024 blog, and Google calendars for due dates.
This opportunity underscores NASA’s commitment to fostering innovative research that contributes to understanding heliophysical processes, leveraging both domestic and international collaboration. Proposers must ensure timely submission and adherence to all solicitation requirements to advance their project’s potential for funding and implementation.
