The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County offers Senior Living Grants to support programs and services that promote the health, safety, independence, and overall quality of life for older adults in the local community. These grants are designed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors while preserving their dignity and encouraging active engagement in their communities. The foundation seeks projects that are impactful and mission-driven, targeting the pressing needs of the senior population.
Eligible applicants include charitable organizations dedicated to meeting senior living and related needs in St. Joseph County, Indiana. The Foundation encourages proposals that reflect an understanding of the senior demographic and provide sustainable, high-quality services tailored to their needs.
Beginning in 2025, a matching requirement is in effect. Organizations may request funding for up to 50% of their total project budget, with the remaining amount to be raised independently. Only cash contributions qualify toward this matching requirement; in-kind donations and future pledges are not eligible. Applicants have up to one year after receiving the grant to secure the required matching funds.
The Community Foundation conducts two grant cycles each year, with deadlines on May 1 and November 1. If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, applications are due by 9:00 a.m. the next business day. Applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s online grant system, which opens six weeks prior to each deadline. Organizations are encouraged to review the detailed Senior Living Initiative grant guidelines and may use the Foundation's provided budget template when applying.
Applicants are also expected to acknowledge the Foundation’s support in all communications related to the funded project. The Foundation provides Grant Recognition Guidelines and tips to strengthen applications on its website. A list of previously funded Senior Living projects is also available to help guide proposal development.
