This grant provides funding for projects that promote American culture and foster cultural exchange between the United States and Slovakia, particularly through collaborations with local Slovak institutions and individuals.

Description

The “Sharing American Culture in Slovakia” grant, administered by the U.S. Embassy in Slovakia, aims to support projects that highlight the richness and diversity of American culture while fostering cultural dialogue and people-to-people ties between the United States and Slovakia. Proposals should promote collaboration between U.S. and Slovak institutions or individuals and may include cultural, educational, or public engagement activities. The total funding available is $40,000, with awards ranging from $1,000 to $24,999. Projects should be completed within 24 months, starting no earlier than April 2025. The deadline for application submission is February 9, 2025.

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations such as think tanks, cultural institutions, civil society organizations, and public educational institutions, as well as government institutions and individuals. U.S.-based applicants must demonstrate partnerships with local entities in Slovakia. Only one application per individual or organization is permitted. Cost sharing is not required, but applicants must meet all federal registration requirements, such as obtaining a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) through SAM.gov, except for individuals, who are exempt from this requirement.

Funding can be used to support activities that facilitate cultural exchanges and networking opportunities, but certain expenses are prohibited. These include partisan or political projects, religious activities, trade or commercial activities, fundraising campaigns, construction projects, or the institutional development of the applicant organization. Administrative and coordination costs are allowed but capped at 10% of the total grant amount. Subawards and financial transfers to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) are also disallowed.

To apply, applicants must submit their materials in English, including U.S. government forms (SF-424, SF-424A, and, if applicable, SF-424B) and a detailed budget using the provided template. Proposals should not exceed eight pages, and budgets must be presented in U.S. dollars. Applications are to be submitted electronically to Bratislava_GrantsSlovakia@state.gov.

Applications will be evaluated on the quality and feasibility of the proposed idea, the applicant’s organizational capacity, program planning and ability to achieve objectives, budget clarity and reasonableness, and the inclusion of a monitoring and evaluation plan. Successful applicants will be notified via email, and unsuccessful applicants will be informed by March 15, 2025. Award recipients will be required to submit periodic reports detailing program activities and financial expenditures.

The grant seeks to strengthen U.S.-Slovak cultural relations, particularly outside the Slovak capital, by encouraging projects that emphasize mutual understanding and collaboration.
