This funding opportunity supports projects that promote historical awareness and public engagement around shared U.S. and Luxembourg history, particularly focusing on World War II, with an emphasis on youth education and remembrance of the Holocaust.
Description
The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg, through its Public Diplomacy Section, has announced a funding opportunity under the title "Remembering our Shared History." This grant program is designed to strengthen bilateral ties between the United States and Luxembourg by supporting projects that highlight shared historical events, particularly those related to World War II. The program aims to foster public engagement, promote historical awareness, and ensure that the memory of WWII is preserved for future generations. The funding is available for organizations, academic institutions, government entities, and individuals who can propose projects that align with these objectives.
The grant seeks to support programs that emphasize significant events of World War II, including untold stories and collaborations between the U.S. and Luxembourg that reinforce the long-standing alliance between the two nations. Additionally, projects should focus on youth education to ensure that younger generations in Luxembourg remain informed about WWII history. Another key area of interest is programs that encourage a truthful recognition and remembrance of the tragedies of the Second World War, particularly the Holocaust.
Eligible activities under this grant include historical and cultural exhibits, film screenings of documentaries and movies, lecture series, book discussions, media outreach through broadcast and social media platforms, and other forms of public outreach campaigns. All programs must engage Luxembourg audiences and include a U.S. element, such as the involvement of U.S. experts or speakers who promote an increased understanding of U.S. policies and perspectives. Any speaker funded by the grant must hold U.S. citizenship.
The grant has a funding ceiling of $15,000 and a minimum award of $3,000. While cost-sharing or matching funds are not required, applicants must clearly demonstrate the impact and feasibility of their proposed projects. The total estimated program funding has not been specified. The opportunity is discretionary, with funding being provided through FY25 Smith-Mundt Public Diplomacy Funds.
Eligible applicants include U.S. or Luxembourg-based non-profit organizations, think tanks, civil society groups, academic institutions, public international organizations, governmental institutions, and individuals. U.S.-based organizations applying for funding must have a Luxembourgish partner. Individual applicants must justify why they are uniquely qualified to execute their proposed projects.
The application process requires the submission of a Statement of Interest (SOI). The closing date for applications is May 4, 2025. Further details, including the complete Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), can be found on the U.S. Embassy Luxembourg’s website or in the related documents section of the grants.gov announcement.
