This grant provides financial support to Maine municipalities, tribal governments, and nonprofit organizations for tourism marketing initiatives aimed at increasing visitor traffic to their destinations.

Description

The Maine Tourism Marketing Partnership Program (MTMPP) Enterprise Marketing Grant supports tourism marketing initiatives designed to increase visitation and spending within Maine destinations. Administered by the Maine Office of Tourism (MOT), this grant aligns with the state’s Destination Management Plan and Stewardship Principles. It encourages sustainable growth in Maine’s tourism economy through coordinated marketing efforts between the private sector and regional destination marketing organizations.

Eligible applicants include Maine-based nonprofits, municipalities, and tribal governments. Organizations may not hold more than one Maine Office of Tourism grant contract per fiscal year and must be in good standing with the Secretary of State as of the application deadline. Applicants who previously received funding must wait at least 12 months after submitting a final grant report before applying again. Repeat applicants must demonstrate an expanded marketing program or new strategic initiatives.

The minimum grant request is $5,000, and the maximum is $30,000. Applicants must provide a 50% cash match, which may come from organizational funds, corporate sponsorships, grants, or cash donations. Funded projects must focus on attracting visitors from at least 50 miles away. Eligible expenses include paid advertising, public relations, media events, website enhancements, photography, video acquisition, brochures, maps, and participation in domestic and Canadian travel trade shows. Ineligible expenses include administrative costs, fundraising activities, promotional products, capital equipment, food, alcohol, and professional development.

Applications for FY26 Cycle 1 are due by Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Grant awards will be announced the week of June 9, 2025, and contracts will begin on July 1, 2025. Events seeking funding must not occur within 90 days of the contract start date. All funds are distributed on a reimbursement-only basis, and a final grant report is due within 30 days of the contract’s end date.

Applications are evaluated on project goals, budget requirements, strategic marketing plans, collaboration with partners, implementation strategies, economic impact, and alignment with the Office of Tourism’s Destination Management Plan. Successful applicants may be required to negotiate final plan modifications before approval by the Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development.
