2025 African American Community Fund

The African American Community Fund Grants are administered by the Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) to support nonprofit organizations that provide services benefiting the African American community in Washington County, Pennsylvania. The foundation is committed to strengthening the community by funding initiatives that promote culture, education, history, economic development, and other key aspects of African American life. The fund seeks to create opportunities that foster inclusion, celebrate heritage, and improve economic prospects for African American residents.
The primary objective of the grant is to support the expansion of existing programs, the creation of new initiatives, and other projects that directly impact the African American community in Washington County. Eligible funding areas include culture, community development, education and enrichment, history and preservation, and entrepreneurship. Grants may be used for a wide range of activities, such as cultural events like Juneteenth celebrations, arts and music camps, STEM/STEAM programs, preservation of historical sites, community development projects, and entrepreneurship initiatives that provide business incubator support.
Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations that have tax-exempt status and operate within Washington County. The grant supports organizations that provide direct services to the African American community in alignment with the stated funding areas. There are no restrictions based on the size or scope of the nonprofit, as long as the project meets the grant’s objectives and demonstrates a tangible benefit to the African American population.
The funding request should not exceed $5,000 per application. The grant can be used for program development, capacity-building initiatives, equipment and supplies, and matching fund requirements for other funding sources. Funds cannot be used for general operating expenses, debt retirement, or activities outside the scope of the grant’s focus areas.
Applications for the African American Community Fund Grants open on February 1 and are due by February 28. All applications must be submitted through the WCCF grant portal. Evaluation criteria include the project’s impact, alignment with funding priorities, feasibility, and sustainability. The selection process involves a review committee that assesses applications based on merit and community impact.
