LGBTQ Fund

This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations in the Greater New Orleans area that promote equality and improve the quality of life for LGBTQ individuals and families, particularly those from marginalized groups.

The LGBTQ Fund, administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF), supports nonprofit organizations that promote equality, fairness, and acceptance for LGBTQ individuals and families. This grant prioritizes work that enhances the quality of life and access to opportunities for the LGBTQ community, with a special focus on marginalized populations such as elders, transgender individuals, LGBTQ youth of color, and LGBTQ persons with disabilities. The fund also supports efforts that build the cultural competency of mainstream organizations that serve LGBTQ clientele.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations operating within GNOF’s 13-parish service area, with priority given to those serving Orleans Parish. Organizations without tax-exempt status may apply if they have a fiscal sponsorship agreement with a 501(c)(3) organization. Grants are expected to range between $5,000 and $10,000, though awards may be higher or lower based on committee recommendations.

Funding is available for a variety of activities, including general operations, advocacy efforts (such as legislative and community organizing initiatives), capacity-building efforts (including technology, collaboration, and professional development), and direct services. Direct services may include primary care, behavioral health, crisis management, legal support, workforce development, financial literacy, housing, transportation, and safe spaces for the LGBTQ community.

The application process begins with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) through the Foundation’s online portal by March 21, 2025, at 11:59 PM CT. The grant review committee will assess LOIs and invite selected organizations to submit full proposals by April 14, 2025. Proposals will be evaluated based on eligibility, alignment with funding priorities, number of beneficiaries, evaluation methods, and collaboration with other organizations. Funding decisions will be made by the Foundation’s LGBTQ review committee, which includes members of the board and LGBTQ community representatives. Grant awards are expected to be announced in June 2025.

All applications must be submitted electronically through GNOF’s online portal. The Foundation strongly encourages applicants to review an instructional tutorial on using the submission system before applying. Any questions regarding the grant can be directed to grants@gnof.org with the subject line “LGBTQ Fund Question.”
