The Andy Warhol Foundation’s Arts Writers Grant
This grant provides financial support to writers in the U.S. who are creating works related to contemporary visual art, including articles, books, and short-form writing.
Description
The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program supports emerging and established writers engaged with contemporary visual art. Grants range from $15,000 to $50,000 and are awarded in three categories: articles, books, and short-form writing. The program is committed to supporting diverse forms of writing, including scholarly studies, general audience criticism, interdisciplinary criticism, and experimental literary styles that engage with contemporary visual art.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or holders of O-1 visas. Writers may apply in only one category per application cycle. Articles are defined as substantially researched essays published in art magazines, newspapers, or online platforms. Books are long-form research projects, and short-form writing encompasses blog posts, social media posts, or brief reviews with a regular publishing schedule. The grant also newly offers the Arts Writers Translation Grant, supporting book projects that translate texts on contemporary visual art from other languages into English.
The 2025 application opened on April 2, 2025, and will close on May 7, 2025, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. Notifications of finalist status will be sent by October 1, 2025, and grantees will be announced by December 3, 2025. Application guidelines, eligibility details, and submission portals are available through the Arts Writers Grant website.
