2025 Progress of Ideas Grant Program
This grant provides funding to U.S.-based nonprofit organizations for research projects that promote economic justice and address issues like land value taxation, housing, and climate change without increasing inequality.
Description
The Progress & Poverty Institute is accepting applications for its 2025 Progress of Ideas Grant Program, which provides support for research aligned with the work and legacy of economist Henry George. This grant offers funding of up to $10,000 per project to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations conducting research that explores economic justice, land value taxation, free trade, and public benefit without increasing inequality. A broad range of topic areas is encouraged, including issues related to housing, climate change, infrastructure, taxation, migration, political economy, indigenous land rights, resource management, and more.
Applicants must submit their proposals by April 11, 2025, at 8:00 PM Eastern. Selected awardees will be notified by May 13, 2025. Projects may be conducted over a period of up to two years. Proposals must clearly address one or more of the eligible topic areas, include a problem statement, background literature summary, research methodology, budget, and CVs of researchers. Applications are submitted through the Institute's online platform, which also provides access to the downloadable project budget template and full application instructions.
Eligibility is restricted to researchers affiliated with U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organizations. While international topics may be explored, all applications must be submitted through a qualifying U.S. nonprofit. The program encourages applications from both new and returning researchers, although individuals who have previously received funding must meet reapplication guidelines. Projects aimed at producing commercial products, services, or capital investments are ineligible.
The grant supports direct research costs and may include limited indirect costs. A completed budget, curriculum vitae, and responses to several narrative prompts are required as part of the application. Topics may cover areas such as housing affordability, taxation equity, public investment, climate change impacts, land use, and other "commons" including water rights and carbon markets. The grant does not fund product development or capital campaigns.
Applicants can contact the Institute at grants@progressandpovertyinstitute.org or call (973) 434-0005 with questions about eligibility, submission requirements, or post-award processes. All applications must be submitted through the official online portal using the provided templates and file formats.
