Target Range Grants
This program provides funding to nonprofit organizations, shooting clubs, and local governments in Texas to develop and improve public shooting facilities that promote safety, education, and conservation in shooting sports.
Description
The Target Range Grant Program supports the development of public, safe, and accessible shooting facilities that align with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) hunter education and shooting sports activities. This grant aims to enhance recreational opportunities for shooting sports, provide regional locations for hunters to practice, and foster partnerships within the target range community. Eligible projects include the construction, development, and improvement of firearm and archery range facilities, with a focus on education, safety, ethics, and conservation.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, commercial target range operators, shooting clubs, and local governmental agencies that provide public access to target ranges and offer hunter education classes. Preference is given to non-commercial operations. Awardees must cover project costs upfront and submit receipts for reimbursement of up to 90% of eligible costs. Applicants must provide at least a 10% match in cash, donated materials, or in-kind contributions, excluding federal funding sources. The minimum funding request is $150,000.
