Description
The Energy Conservation Grant, administered by Community Services, assists North Dakota political subdivisions in making energy efficiency improvements to public buildings. Eligible projects include installation of insulation, efficient lighting, HVAC upgrades, weather sealing, replacement of windows and doors, and other energy conservation projects with a required payback period. Awards are available up to $100,000 with a 50% cash match requirement. Projects will be awarded on a first come, first served basis, subject to funding availability. To apply, review the qualifications and guidelines, complete the necessary forms, obtain bids, and submit the application to Cameron Hayes at the North Dakota Department of Commerce. Projects must be an energy efficiency retrofit to a nonfederal political subdivision facility, have a combined payback period of 10 years or less, and save energy. Confirmation of energy savings and payback period is required for projects under $50,000, while projects $50,000 and over require confirmation from an engineering firm. Projects with buildings on the National Register of Historic Places or 50 years old or older need approval from the State Historical Society. Applicants must also comply with State solid waste management requirements and EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting rule. Projects started prior to July 1, 2013 are not eligible.
