Description
The Lydia Collins deForest Charitable Trust supports charitable organizations in New Jersey, with a focus on human services and religion-related programs. Established in 2002, the Trust prioritizes initiatives that provide services to visually impaired individuals, support churches affiliated with the Protestant Episcopal Church and related religious organizations, and assist homeless, unemployed, or substance-dependent individuals. Special consideration is given to Mrs. deForest’s favorite charities: The Lighthouse, Inc. in New York, Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, New Jersey, and the Salvation Army in Union, New Jersey.
Grants range from $25,000 to $50,000 and may be awarded for one or multiple years. The Trust supports projects that significantly enhance an organization's capacity, reach, or impact, including requests for capital improvements or technical support. However, the Trust does not consider grant requests for general operating expenses or building campaigns. Applications must clearly outline the purpose of the request, provide a project budget, detail the use of funds, and specify the expected outcomes.
The annual application deadline is November 30, with applicants being notified of grant decisions by February 28 of the following year. Bank of America serves as a co-trustee for the Trust, alongside Ms. Jean Marano and Ms. Carolann Clynes. Organizations seeking funding should ensure their proposals align with the Trust’s mission and requirements.
