Bascom Little Fund 2025
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in Northeast Ohio for the performance and recording of new contemporary music, focusing on artistic initiatives like concerts and recordings.
Description
The Bascom Little Fund is a charitable trust established to promote the performance and recording of new contemporary music created by composers residing in Northeast Ohio. The fund operates an annual grant cycle that for 2025 runs from March 1 to May 1. The fund specifically supports artistic initiatives such as concerts, recordings, publications, and other related media that showcase contemporary compositions. Importantly, it does not fund the commission of new works or general operating expenses. Instead, it is focused on supporting tangible project components like performances, recordings, and associated production costs.
Eligibility for the Bascom Little Fund is limited to 501(c)(3) public charities. Composers and ensembles who are not nonprofits themselves must collaborate with a qualifying nonprofit partner, using fiscal sponsorship to meet eligibility criteria. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to contemporary music performance and show a history of artistic quality and professional programming. Special preference is given to applications that demonstrate additional financial support beyond the requested funds from the Bascom Little Fund.
Grant proposals are reviewed by a peer panel selected by the fund. Evaluation is based on the artistic merit of the proposed work, the applicant's dedication to contemporary music, and their capacity to carry out the proposed project both financially and organizationally. For new applicants, supplemental materials such as links to scores, recordings, or video performances are required and must be submitted digitally. Award announcements will be issued in writing by June 30 of the grant year.
All projects must acknowledge the Bascom Little Fund in advertising, social media, and printed programs. Additionally, grant recipients must submit reporting materials by May 1 of the funding year, including recordings and programs. Composers whose work is funded are also required to submit a copy of their recorded project and related program materials to WCLV, a local classical radio station, by June 1. Failure to comply with these requirements may impact eligibility for future grants.
Applications must include detailed project and financial information, including project descriptions, budget breakdowns, and details about contributing funding partners. The fund emphasizes transparency and accountability, requiring full reporting of both project-specific and organizational financial details for the current and prior fiscal years. All application components must be completed fully and submitted by the May 1 deadline. Questions or clarifications can be directed to the Bascom Little Fund at b.littlefund@gmail.com.
