Watertown Community Foundation

This funding opportunity supports local organizations in Watertown, Massachusetts, to create inclusive programs that enhance community access, promote intercultural understanding, and strengthen connections among residents.

Description

The Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) offers Community Engagement Grants to support programs that foster inclusivity, intercultural understanding, and community access in Watertown, Massachusetts. These grants aim to remove barriers to participation in community-based services and initiatives, helping residents connect with programs, events, and public spaces. The goal is to build a more cohesive and equitable community through enhanced engagement and accessibility.

The 2025 Community Engagement Grant cycle is open from April 1 to April 24, 2025. Applicants must either be based in Watertown and serve Watertown residents or, if based outside Watertown, demonstrate a clear partnership with a Watertown-based nonprofit and show that the primary beneficiaries of the grant-funded program are Watertown residents. Applicants must be a public entity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, or be fiscally sponsored by a Watertown-based 501(c)(3). Organizations with only 501(c)(4) status or those applying for programs run in collaboration with Watertown Public Schools (which are eligible under a different grant program in the fall) are ineligible.

Projects must align with at least one of the following focus areas:

Increasing access to programs and services

Fostering intercultural communication and understanding

Strengthening community connections

The maximum grant award is $5,000, depending on the scope and impact of the proposed program. All funded programs must be completed by March 31, 2026. Eligible expenses include direct program costs such as participant scholarships, service delivery, presenter fees, room rental, and supplies. The grant will also cover outreach and educational activities that promote awareness of the supported program’s goals.

However, the grant does not fund general operating costs unrelated to the project, lobbying or political activity, or capital campaigns and construction-related expenses.

Applicants can find more information and apply online via the WCF website during the grant window. For questions or additional support, organizations can reach out to the foundation via phone at 617-926-1500 or by mail at PO Box 334, Watertown, MA 02471.
