Community Engagement Mini-Grants 2025
This program provides funding for community-led projects in Durham that aim to strengthen neighborhood relationships and promote positive change through outreach, education, and small improvements.
Description
The Community Engagement Mini-Grants program, offered by the City of Durham, provides flexible funding ranging from $500 to $5,000 for community-led projects that foster relationships and strengthen engagement within local neighborhoods and demographic communities. These grants are designed to empower residents to create positive, lasting impacts in their communities through outreach, educational initiatives, and physical improvements.
The application process begins with a Pre-Qualification Form, available starting December 16, 2024, and due by January 24, 2025. This form ensures applicants are residents or connected to the communities they wish to serve and have two supporting community contacts. Those who complete this step receive a link to the full application, which must be submitted by January 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM. An Interest Session will be held virtually on January 9, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, offering tips for a strong application and insights from past recipients.
Eligible projects include community outreach campaigns, educational workshops, and small physical improvements like gardens or benches. Unique ideas are encouraged, provided they align with the program's goal of building connections and creating positive change. Applicants without a bank account may partner with a fiscal sponsor to manage grant funds.
Funds are distributed in two payments: most upfront to launch the project, with the balance released after a final report is submitted. Grantees are required to complete a mid-term progress report and a final report summarizing outcomes and fund usage. Templates and guidance are provided to simplify reporting.
This program prioritizes accessibility, offering materials in English and Spanish and accommodations upon request. For questions or support, applicants can contact the Community Engagement Team via email at CommunityEngagementTeam@durhamnc.gov or by phone at 919-560-1647. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit the Pre-Qualification Form early to maximize their time for the full application process.
