Description

The Miami-Dade County Summer Arts & Science Camps for Kids (SAS-C) Grants Program for FY 2024-2025 is a funding initiative that provides grants to nonprofit organizations offering high-quality cultural arts and science summer camps for children and youth in Miami-Dade County. Funded by The Children's Trust, the program is designed to support underserved populations by providing children opportunities to attend specialized camp programs at little or no cost. Since its inception, this collaboration has significantly expanded access to the arts for local children and youth, including those with disabilities.

To be eligible for the grant, an organization must be:

A registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit or an educational institution, municipality, or government entity operating in Miami-Dade County.
Directly responsible for managing all aspects of the camp, including registration, scheduling, programming, and reporting.
Able to demonstrate a minimum of one year of experience running high-quality summer camps for children or youth.
Not applying as a fiscal agent or a religious organization promoting sectarian activities.
The program prioritizes camps that focus on underserved children and youth, including those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, children with disabilities, and youth in foster care or under the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system. Programs must be open to the broader community and operate for a minimum of 19 program days.

Applicants may request up to $40,000, but must demonstrate matching funds. The grant cannot serve as the sole source of funding, and grants from The Children’s Trust or other programs within the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs cannot be used as matching funds.

Applications must be submitted through the Department’s online system by the specified deadlines. First-time applicants are required to submit early for a courtesy review, while returning applicants can opt for this review but are not required to. All applicants must attend a mandatory pre-grant workshop.

Eligible expenses include costs directly related to the camp, such as artistic or technical fees, equipment rentals, supplies, and in-county travel. The funds may not be used for indirect costs such as overhead, out-of-county travel, fundraising events, or scholarships for children residing outside of Miami-Dade County. At least 15% of camp participants must be children with disabilities.

Applications are evaluated based on factors such as the program’s impact, artistic or scientific merit, management capability, and ability to reach underserved populations. Awards are contingent upon funding availability and are subject to approval by the Cultural Affairs Council and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners.
